Living the Hero’s Journey - Mr. Twenty Twenty

The man who became Mr. Twenty Twenty was taken hostage in the Camp Hill Prison Riots back in October 1989.

His name back then was John Wingert. Newly married, recently hired by the Department Of Corrections as a Corrections Officer.  Officer Wingert was taken hostage, in a 3 day prison riot, tied up, beaten, and literally left to die.

Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and his life fell apart, until he took massive action to save his life and change his world.

He spent years studying with Native American Elders, learning their Wisdom Traditions.  At first he wanted to escape his inner torture, and it was later that he began to live with harmony and with purpose.

He also immersed himself in the various schools of mind science and healing, including Neurolinguistic Programming, Hypnosis, and Naturopathic healing.  It was during this time, that he began to become deeply amazed at what was truly possible for us as human beings, if only we took the time to explore, and searched deep within to release the resolve that we needed to experience personal transformation.

He gradually developed a personal code of conduct, based in personal responsibility and discovering your personal power and passion, this code is evident in the courses and private trainings he leads, primarily in the Austin, Texas and Pittsburgh, PA regions.

He has been leading private and small group trainings for over 15 years, to help people discover their inner vision, express their passion, and to live lives that make a difference.

You can find out more about his trainings, using the links on this site.

Camp Hill Prison Riots

|

Camp Hill the day that lasted 72 hours

On October 25, 1989 more than 1,300 inmates at the Camp Hill State Correctional Institution rioted. The rioters took at least 8 hostages, lighting 4 fires and caused millions of dollars in damage. More then 35 staff members, 5 inmates, 1 firefighter and 1 state trooper sustain injuries in the worst uprising in Pennsylvania history.

Inmates returning from an exercise yard in the late afternoon overwhelmed correctional staff and seized hostages. Inmates were reportedly upset about overcrowding and suspended privileges. They set fires, which destroyed more then half of the 31 buildings and took hostages who were not only guards but also other inmates who were not willing to join in the rioting. The riot ended through negotiations and the inmates were confined to their cells. The superintendent informed news and officials that the riot was over.

The next day the superintendent met with the inmates to discuss their grievances. Unknown to the superintendent or staff many of the cells which the inmates were confined to were not secure permitting the start of a second riot later that day allowing prisoners to escape and take more then 17 more hostages and injuring 138 officers.
